OE Outer Portal Wear Ring – U1700L & U2450 6×6

This outer portal wear ring is a genuine OE (original equipment) part. It is designed to fit the Ex-Australian Defence Force (ADF) Unimog U1700L, U2450 6×6, and other 435-series Unimog.
In particular, it suits axle assemblies on the U2450 6×6 up to serial number 022030.

The wear ring is located on the outer (wheel-side) of the portal axle assembly. It provides a smooth, durable surface for the main large portal seal to operate against. This surface is critical to help prevent oil leaks. It also supports proper seal function and protects the portal hub over time.

However, wear rings are subject to wear, especially in rough conditions, off-road use and fleet vehicles often leading to scoring, rust, or seal damage.
Therefore, replacing the wear ring when changing the portal seal is strongly recommended. A new seal installed against a damaged ring can still fail.
For this reason, most mechanics replace both parts together to ensure long-term reliability.
